You may not know, but the doormat mine is smack dab in the middle of downtown Baltimore. On Saturday the 7/11 next to our studio was smashed and looted along with other businesses. Cars tires were slashed as they drove and bricks thrown through motorists window. Random violence was erupting. Monday we returned to the doormat mines. We walked the dogs, about to head home, when we saw the 20 or so cops in riot gear hiding in the 7/11 parking lots. We thought- time to get out of here quick! …
We here at Damn Good Doormats are eco-conscious. We don't want our company to be the source of pollution to the planet. To that effort, we use the renewable resource of sustainable coir (coconut husks) for our mats, ship carbon neutral, sweep up our coco fibers and donate them to a local mushroom farmer and now we flocculate. *Big news! The Hubby is quitting his day job to work in the doormat mines!*
He has taken over most of the heavy lifting. There is a lot of that involved! From prepping the mats (at 5-10 lbs each he can move 2000 lbs of coco in a day!) to making boxes & Thank You packs and packing up the days shipments- I don't know how I've been doing it all by myself for 4 years!
Oh yeah- he's taking over the photography and descriptions too- so look forward to some MUCH better stuff there…
